How it works

  1. Tap Start. The ring runs down from 4:00:00.
  2. At this length, use the app on your phone rather than a browser tab you have to protect.
  3. A tone marks the end.
  4. If you care about a specific clock time rather than a duration, an alarm fits better.

Frequently asked questions

What is a four hour timer for?
Half a working day, a long low-temperature bake or smoke, a long exam block, or the shorter fasting windows people time. It is long enough that most people want the reminder rather than watching it.
Is a browser tab reliable for four hours?
Honestly, no. It works while the tab is open and the machine is awake, but four hours is long enough for a sleep, an update or a closed window to end it. Use the app on your phone for this, or set an alarm at the clock time you actually care about.
Timer or alarm at this length?
Usually an alarm. Past a couple of hours, people almost always mean a moment ("wake me at six", "it comes out at half past") rather than a duration, and an alarm survives everything a countdown does not.
